First Timers Guide to Lisbon, Portugal

lisbon trolley

The DL: Lisbon is a City that really stole my heart. Beautiful facades, lively atmosphere, water views, and it offers a little bit of everything. It is all very walkable and there is something to do at all hours of the day or night. I spent close to a week in Lisbon here are my top spots for the perfect weekend guide to Lisbon, Portugal.

How to get to Lisbon:

You can fly directly into Lisbon, a direct flight from JFK is around 6 hours, I would not rent a car as parking is hard to find and the City is pedestrian focused. You can train in from other areas of Portugal easily.

Where to stay:

Would highly recommend Le Consulat, it’s a fabulous old world building, in a great location and a balcony with views. If traveling with a friends/family – I would highly recommend getting the 2 bedroom suite. It is in Chiado so very good location, other areas I would stay in would be Principe Real

What to see in Lisbon:

You can find my google map here of where to explore for the best guide to Lisbon.

Instagrammable/Picturesque spots:

  • Any of the trolley stops
  • Rossio Square
  • Acro da Rua Agusta
  • Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

Where to eat guide to Lisbon:

Breakfast/Brunch – Dear Breakfast, The Mill, or local pastry shops

Lunch/Dinner:

  • Timeout Market
  • Zero Zero (pizza)
  • Valdo Gatti (low gluten pizza)
  • Prado
  • Cevicheria – small no resy, drink pisco sour in the small window they sell
  • Jncauoi – in a theater
  • Seen
  • Rocco
  • Sea Me

Dessert

  • Landeue Chocolate or Satinis Gelato are favorites

Where to get a pastal de nata:

  • Sweet nata, Fabrica de Nata

Where to grab a drink:

  • By the wine $3 glasses
  • Mini Bar – late night
  • Rooftop bars – topo chiado (casual vibes), Java (nicer vibes), Park (didn’t get to go here), Noobai (casual vibes), Sky bar (nicer vibes), Rossio (nicer vibes).

Tips: Bring comfortable walking shoes, you will be walking up and down hills all day and wear longer maxi dresses as the wind and the hills don’t make a good combo for short dresses.

Scenes from Lisbon:

For a day trip check out Comporta, the cutest beach town only an hour drive from Lisbon.
