The DL: Anguilla is a hidden gem in the Caribbean, not only offering pristine beaches, high end resorts, and a laid-back beach vibes but is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway, anniversary, or babymoon.
Insider Tips About Anguilla:
- Flights to the actual island are very limited, most flights go into the neighboring island of Saint Martin and then take a ferry to the island. New direct flights just came in 2026 out of Newark (Bermudair)- this is the best option if you can get directly to Anguilla.
- Its pretty much only high end hotels on the island or locals, not much in between
- You should have a car if you want to go off property really at all and explore, they are cheap and its nice if you want to explore other beaches and resorts. Unless you plan on never leaving the resort you will want one. Cabs are limited, there is no uber.
- Make sure you have a way to get from the airport to the resort/air bnb if they do not provide.
- Bring cash, if you need to taxi you will need cash and for tips around the island!
- The main thing to do here besides the top rated beaches is to resort hop, and it is encouraged which makes it fun.
- The entry customs line via SXM is very long, and I mean very long. I dont know if it was because the time of day or construction but it was long. We were able to skip the line because I was pregnant but it would have taken forever.
- Sunset is a big deal in Anguilla so plan to see the sunset each night
- Best Time to Visit: The dry season (December-April) offers the best weather and more is open
How to Get to Anguilla
We flew into SXM since we had a direct from NYC, if you can fly to Anguilla that is ideal as mentioned above. We used Funtime charters and highly recommend, they pick you up from the airport, take a small more private boat to the ferry terminal so its a direct route.
