The DL: Though many people don’t seek out Jackson as a vacation spot, its a hidden gem when it comes to the food and people. I went to college in Mississippi and spent a lot of time exploring over the years. If you happen to find your self near or driving through here are some things to do, my weekend guide to Jackson, Mississippi:
How to get to Jackson, Mississippi:
Jackson airport (very tiny, you most likely will go through a big airport like ATL to get here)
You will need a car to get around here, there is no public transportation
Where to stay:
The downtown of Jackson itself is not as popular as the suburb town, as it is in a revitalization stage. I would recommend staying at one of these spots:
- Fairview Inn
- Old Capitol Inn
- Hotels at The Township at Colony Park
- Homewood Suites Fondren
- Residence Inn at the District of Eastover
What to do in Jackson, Mississippi:
- Mississippi Museum of Art
- The Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum
- LeFleur’s Bluff State Park
- Explore the Reservoir, even rent a boat
- Explore Fondren – highly recommend walking around and eating here
- Cathead Distillery Tour – their honeysuckle vodka is great
- Shop at the Renaissance (cute area with a lot of brand names, also check out Libby Story and Soft surroundings)
- Bike the Natchez Trace Trails
- Visit the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science
- See live Music at Hal & Mal’s
- Concert or Show at Duling Hall
- See a play at New Stage Theater
- Shop at the District at EastOver (Elizabeth Clairs is cute store)
- Visit the antique stores on the brick streets of Clinton
- Get a massage at Aqua the Day Spa
Where to Eat:

- The Bean – Coffee
- Cups – Local coffee chain, very good!
- Another broken egg
Lunch:
- Keifers – my all time favorite cheap Greek eat (get pita mozz, cottage potatoes, and feta sauce)
- Brents Drugs – Old diner known for milkshakes, fun atmosphere and check out the speakeasy in the back
- Saltines – seafood
- Cultivation Food Hall
- Fine and Dandy – Burgers and Milkshakes
Dinner:
- Char – chain but good steak
- Caet – seafood – one of my favorites (get the redfish Anna)
- Shapleys – upscale steakhouse
- Elys – upscale steakhouse
- Koestler prime – upscale steakhouse

- Walkers Drive in – upscale American, one of my favorites
