The DL: A tiny chic beach town with the aesthetic and offering for high end beach goers, Comporta may not be known now, but it won’t be long until more find out about this charming beach side spot. Only an hour from Lisbon the population is about 1,000 but the whole town is filled with construction and new development. Much of Comporta is filled with natural preserve land, or flat land filled with rice fields, trees, and sand dunes. Comporta is all about the relaxed pace and barefoot living lifestyle, with 7 little villages along the coast and only really a summer month community. Many compare the area to a Montauk 30 years ago, we were quite obsessed when we visited in summer of 2022 and can’t wait to go back. Here are all the details you need to know about Comporta, Portugal.
How to get to Comporta
You will need a car as there is not public transit or taxis. The best option if traveling internationally is to fly into Lisbon and rent a car for the hour drive.
Where to stay:
- Submlime Coporta is my top pick
- Quinta da Comprta
- Casa na areia
- Spatia Comporta
- For bigger groups options like – Campo de Arroz, Manos 114, Sublimes villas for example
- For more affordable options or if you don’t meet the minimum nights try the neighboring area of Troia (15 minute drive) like the Troia Design Hotel
Where to eat in Comporta:
- You must go to Sublime Comporta Beach Club – that was my favorite spot (get the white sangria, squid ink rice, and fresh prawns)
- 5 Selindos – this is a great dinner option, we loved everything we ordered here. Their only other location is in Cais Cais. Make sure to get a reservation.
- Restaurant food circle for an intimate 12 person seating with Chef at Sublime
- Sal – for laid back beach eats
- Gomes – local grocery story and restaurant
- Sem Porta – one of Sublimes 3 restaurants
- Comporta Café – classic lunch spot
- Ilha Do Arroz – local favorite
- Almo – coffee, bites, wine and snacks in the downtown, loved the vibes here
- Cavalarica da comporta – known for cocktails, can be hard to get a reservation
- Mar D’Arrozal – farm to table
- phenomenal seafood, at Dona Bia or in Comporta village at Museu do Arroz,
- Be Comporta – healthy breakfast or lunch spot
- Troia Beach Club – eat lunch beach side views
- Jacare da Comporta – Italian spot with good vibes
- Sao Joao – recomendei for authentic Portuguese cuisine
What to do in Comporta:
Check out one of the main 3 beaches
- Praia do Pego – the most popular known for its sand and overall aesthetic. Has been claimed to be one of the most beautiful beaches
- Praia da Comporta – deep and wide beach in a nature reserve
- Praia do Carvalhal – great for sunsets, surrounded by dunes and rice fields
Other beaches:
- Pria de brejos, Pria da Torre (right by the other main beaches) but can be harder to reach
- Pria Da Costa Gale and Pria Troia Mar more near Troia are both beautiful options
Horse ride on the beach or through rice paddies with Cavalos na Areia
Learn to surf with Surf in Comporta, or do a SUP tour through the rice fields
Take a yoga or wellness class with Sublime
Where to shop:
The cutest little downtown is filled with high end shops, some of my favorites included:
- Lavanda
- Market Hall with tons of vendors – Casa da Cultura
- There are tons of interior design focused stores – like Barracuda, RICE, Stork Club
- Coral Comporta
- Côté Sud
- Fio d’Água – actually got my husband some great bathing suits here

Other things to note:
The downtown is small and the town is a bit spread out because of the nature preserve and rice fields, this is a very kid friendly area almost every meal we ate at had multiple children in restaurant. Finding a good resort is most ideal since you will spend much of your night there as the night life scene is non-exsistant. We fell in love with this charming beach side escape, I hope you do too!
