The DL: Being born and raised in Orlando, most of my life has been spent going to disney, I mean I even had prom there one year. I will say that going to the Magic Kingdom during Covid almost felt like going back in time when I use to visit Disney World back in the day; not shoulder to shoulder crowded, no fast passes, and back to the original magic – the rides! All in all, the coronavirus has not conquered Disney (yet) and many of the tourists even had t-shirts that said “social disneying” that they wore around the park.
Magic Kingdom During Covid
1. Tickets
Buy tickets in advance and you reserve the day(s) you are going ahead of time.
2. Masks
Of course masks are required everywhere except when seated and eating. There is staff at main photo op spots making sure you don’t take off your masks.
3. Fireworks
There are no fireworks at night (honestly this was what I missed the most) just know that going in.
4. Food
Some of the restaurants hours are modified or limited, and the walk up restaurants are mobile order only but you can still sit inside. Tip – you will need the Disney mobile app for this.
5. Reservations
Dining plans are currently unavailable, but plan to make reservations in advance for any of the sit down restaurants.
6. Relaxation Stations
Relaxation stations are available all over the park and are spaces you can sit and take your masks off temporarily.
7. Rides
All the rides are spaced out (ex: splash mountain you get your own boat, thunder mountain every couple seats are open etc.) and the lines have wait here signs on the ground to space out every 6ft. Many of the rides of also created line waiting areas outside so there is less time inside.
8. Park Hours
Hours may be limited, so make sure to check ahead of time. It was still 9am-9pm when I went.
9. Parades
There is no set time for a parade, floats tend to come out every 15-20 minutes from Frontierland around by the castle. Tip: grab a seat at the benches in between liberty square and the castle and you will have a direct view of the parades.
10. Transportation
Transportation took longer, so for example the monorail because they limited amount of people going in side plan to wait around.
11. Shows and Characters
Most of the shows outdoor and indoor are temporarily closed, check in advance, we were able to see a few of the indoor ones in limited capacity. There is also no meet and greets with characters at this time.
12. Fast Pass
Right now you cannot currently reserve fast passes.
Above all, I think that Disney did a great job with handling the social distancing, you will still get groups that don’t pay attention to the signs when waiting in line but overall, I felt very safe. For more information, visit the Disney website.
