The DL: Ice skating in Central Park was still on my NYC bucket list and I finally got to check it off the list! The Wollman Ice Rink in Central Park is a public ice rink in the south east part of the Park. Named after the Wollman family who donated the funds for its original construction, the best part of this rink is view of the New York City skyline.
- It is cash only so be prepared
- Prices change depending on the day, so on the weekend tickets are $19pp and skates are an additional price. (Plan $60 for two people all in)
- Bring your own bag to carry shoes in, because the lockers are not available. They sell $5 bags you can buy if you want to that say Wollman Ice Rink on them.
- There isn’t technically a time limit on how long you can skate
- Be sure to look at when they will resurface the ice at the online schedule, so you can plan accordingly
- It is a $5 spectator fee if you don’t want to skate
- The skate sizes range from toddler size 6 – mens size 15
- You can enter the park at any of the southern entrances, the 59 street subway stations are most convenient
- The Wollman Ice Rink is open October until early April
- When to go: we went around 11 am on a Saturday and crowds were not bad but when we left the line was wrapped around the door
COVID Update – The rink is open during COVID, masks are required at all times. There is no contract tracing and real social distant enforcement. Since its outdoors the rink is also weather dependent.
