The DL: We went off season and I am already planning a quick get away in the warmer weather to this little coastal town when everything is open and lively. Watch Hill is the southernmost point of Rhode Island and is a wealthy little (very tiny – only 200 people in the census live there) summer town. The New York Times defined the community “with a strong sense of privacy and of discreetly used wealth.”
Where to eat:
- Breakfast – Sift Bake Shop
- Lunch – Verandah, Olympia Tea Room (come around sunset), Ten Sandwiches, The Bistro at Ocean House, Paddys Beach Club (outside of watch hill)
- Dinner – Olympia Tea Room, The Coast at Ocean House, The Andrea (outside of watch hill)
- Drinks and happy hour – Secret Garden
- Dessert – St Clair Annex for ice cream, Candy box
- Sunday Brunch – Ocean House, the Cooked Goose
Beaches:
- East Hill – free except for ocean house reserved sections
- Watch hill – $9 per day
- Napatree Beach – hiker friendly
- Carosuel beach – dog friendly for a fee, also has amenities
Where to stay:
- Ocean House $$$$$ – one of the main hotels, beautiful with a pricey nightly stay
- Watch Hill Inn $$$$$ – beautiful, apartment style room options, pricey
- Weekapaug Inn $$$$ – a town over, on a salt pong, rustic New England, pricey
- Hotel Maria $$$ (outside of watch hill)
What to do besides the beach:
- Watch Hill lighthouse for a sunset
- See Taylor Swifts house
- The Carousel
- Shops on Bay Street
- Look at the beautiful houses
- Check out the neighboring towns
- Tip for Parking – Check out the lot on Larkin Road
