The DL: I fell in love with Saint-Germain-des-Prés also known as the 6th arrondissement. St Germaine came on our radar because some of our best friends told us to stay here because it was so similar to our current neighborhood in NYC (West Village), it was when I started doing research and seeing where some locals I follow lived, this neighborhood was the top of everyone’s list. It really did feel like the West Village of Paris, charming tree lined streets, local cafes, cobblestone alleys, historic architecture, a sense of culture and overall less touristy. St Germain is Nestled on the Left Bank of the Seine River, this historic district gives vibes of sophistication and that has attracted artists, writers, and thinkers for centuries.
Things to know about the neighborhood of St Germain Paris:
Saint-Germain-des-Prés has long been associated with historic literary elites. The famous Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore are not just coffee shops; if you ask locals they are living museums of literary history. The École des Beaux-Arts, one of the world’s most prestigious art schools, is located here. It’s why Saint-Germain-des-Prés continues to inspire creativity everywhere. Rue de Rennes is lined with chic boutiques and fashion-forward stores where you can find the latest Parisian trends. The historic Saint-Germain-des-Prés Abbey, dating back to the 6th century, stands as a testament to the neighborhood’s rich history. This area’s cultural significance is deeply rooted in its streets, squares, and buildings and just wandering around is a great way to spend the day.
Where to stay in St Germain Paris:
We loved our stay at Hotel Dame Des Arts, it’s a newer more modern hotel. But you must book a room with a terrace, that was one of the best parts besides the rooftop. This location was perfect for where we wanted to go and do. Avoid touristy streets to stay on for noice and find more of a quaint quiet side road if possible.
