The DL: An island that is know for its wild parties and beach club, Mykonos has more to offer. The water here is more beautiful than Santorini. We stayed here for a 5 days and it was more than enough time. It was just the two of us and if we went back we would do a group trip or else skip. Lots of the areas are very touristy, they have American chains like Starbucks that we didn’t see on other islands. This is also a cruise ship stop so the towns become really popular in the day. High end and priced food, bottle service, and expensive beach clubs make up a lot of the coast.
Things to know about Mykonos:
- Yes it’s true half of Mykonos is like being in South beach, Miami but there are plenty of spots to have a more chill local experience if that’s what you want – will post on blog.
- Atvs are the best way to get around as parking is hard in many areas. If you want to rent a scooter you need a motorcycle license.
- Get a hotel with a pool, or prepare to spend $$$ at the beach clubs for a day bed
- If you want to visit the beach clubs but not stay all day of pay the expensive prices, eat at their restaurants and enjoy the view
- When it’s at the end of the season nowhere is super crowded like you think, but going out doesn’t start until really around 1 am still and most people go into town at night because weather is colder. Reservations aren’t really needed offseason.
- Cocktails are more expensive than NYC but you can usually always find a glass of wine for $10 or under.
- I found all the staff to be super hospitable wherever we went.
- This island has more modern amenities and chains like Starbucks.
- If I could only go to 4 places in Mykonos it would be Hippie Fish, Scorpios, Alemagou, and Principote.
- Have your hotel arrange a ride when you land or arrive via ferry and then rent a car or atv through your hotel, way less stressful!
- There are buses in the town that take you to the beach clubs and are pretty accessible
How to Get to Mykonos:
We took the ferry from another island, there is an airport as well.
Where to Stay:
We split our stay into two areas of the islands:
Beach stay* – The George is where we stayed, it was removed from the beach but walkable and had access to the beach chairs if we wanted. Other options: Nissaki Boutique Hotel,
Town stay – Epic Mykonos, it was a little boutique 6 room place and in walking distance of the town. Has Ocean views but also parking lot views and no amenities so wouldn’t probably stay again.
*Paralia Platis Gialos beach is very touristy and people sell things on the beach I wouldn’t stay on this beach

- Shop down Maytoyianna st for good finds
- Hit the beach clubs – pics and locations of my favorites here, plan to spend a full day here because prices to rent chairs are pretty expensive.
