The DL: I grew up going to Hilton Head/Carolinas over the years but hadn’t been back in awhile. I recently went for a girls trip and we had such a fun time! It’s a slower paced island town with good seafood and even better sunsets. Find out more about a girls weekend in Hilton Head.
How to Get to Hilton Head
The main way to get to the island is by plane or car. There are direct flights into Hilton Head Airport (it is tiny, like two gates tiny and really no food just vending machines). If pricey, check out Savannah Airport its about a 45 minute drive. You will most likely need a car on this trip, there isn’t really any public transit and Ubers were very scarce. You can bike to a lot on the island but to get the full experience a car is necessary.
Where to Stay
- Rent a house – we had so many girls we rented a house with a pool on Sandcastle Court, and we could bike or walk to the beach
- People like Sonesta, Omni, or Marriot Hilton Head
Where to Eat
Breakfast
- Java Burrito
- French Bakery
- Hilton Head Diner
- Heywards
Lunch
- Salty Dog Cafe – on the water, touristy
- Santa Fe cafe – rooftop option
- Frosty fog – just go for drinks really, food isn’t amazing
- Skull Creek Dockside – good seafood, get a seat outside on the water
- Janes Bistro
Dinner/Drinks
- Skull Creek Dockside – also good spot for dinner and large groups
- Low Country Backyard – local spot for southern favorites
- Frankie Bones – American food, large groups
- Coco’s on the Beach – best for a drink, cheap eats
- Holy Tequila Mexican Kitchen
- Coast/Ocean Lounge – Dinner/Drinks in the same spot on the water – my pick for views
- Posieden at sunset (get drinks at the rooftop bar) – my pick, a little more pricey
- The Jazz Corner – didn’t get to go, lots of recommendations for here
- Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana – hole in the wall Italian spot
- Try the Carolina Tasting room for a cheap ($3) wine tasting and make your own wine slushies
- Fish Camp – on the water, games, fire pit, good for groups or families
- Black Marlin – bayside, taste of the Florida Keys
- Old Oyster House – a little more formal
- Wise Guys – wine, steaks, small plates
Any of the Serg group restaurants (which feels like half of the island) are pretty good – we started noticing we ate at a lot of their spots.
What to Do
- Shop – shelter cove, cologiny plaza, harbour town
- Rent Bikes – there are tons of trails all over the islands
- Hang at the beach
- Visit the lighthouse
- Visit one of the spas (Arum, Hilton, Westin)
- Honey Horn Plantation
- Zip Line
- Ride horses (trail or beach)
- Golf – this is why a lot of people come here
- Spend time on the water and try one of the water sports, paddleboarding, rent a boat, or fish
- Dolphin Tours/ Sunset Cruise
- Check out the local breweries or do a wine tasting
- See live music at the jazz corner or skull creek boathouse
- Grab a drink at the Tiki Hut or Pool Bar Jim’s beach club bar
We also took a party bus to Savannah for the day/night. Read my guide here.
A girls weekend in Hilton Head is the perfect place for accomplishing a lot in one spot. You can chill at the beach, do night life in savannah, or spend a day at the spa. So many options with a southern low country vibe!
