The DL: Fort Worth Stockyards – Known for the rodeo and livestock, the stockyards are a quick hour trip from Dallas and a western heritage town that will take you back in time. Mostly a walkable little town, you will be able to explore the whole stockyards in a day.
1. Cattle Drive.
You have two chances a day to experience the authentic and historically true herd. Every day at 11:30 am and 4 pm, Texas longhorns come down East Exchange Ave in front of the Livestock Exchange Building.
2. Rodeo.
Known as one of the only year-round rodeos in the world, the Stockyards Championship Rodeo is a two-hour show taking place on Friday and Saturday nights. That doesn’t work in your schedule? There is also Pawnee Bill’s Wild West Show on Saturday afternoons at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
3. Billy Bob’s Texas.
One of the world’s largest honkey tonks, with a concert venue, multiple dance floors, and a live rodeo inside the bar. Home to many country music videos and celebrity visitors, you can’t visit the stockyards without making a stop here.
4. Shopping.
Check out the western stores and pick up a pair of cowboy boots, a ten-gallon hat and some souvenirs.
5. Eat Delicious Food.
One of the famous stockyard stops is Joe T. Garcias with family-style Mexican cuisine that has been around since the 1930s – be prepared for a line. Tip – get margaritas while you wait in line, also wait for the courtyard seating if it’s a nice day out. Another good option is to grab a burger at Love Shack an outdoor two-story restaurant make sure to try their cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert.
6. Extra time?
The stockyards are fairly small so if you have extra time check out Downtown Ft Worth and Sunset Square.
