The DL: Wölffer Estate Vineyard is located in Sagaponack, NY, and has been producing wine since 1988. Known for their rosé and rosé cider, the vineyard is about a 30 minute or less drive from Montauk and other parts of the Hamptons and about 2 hours from NYC.
1. Wölffer Estate was founded in 1988 by Christian Wölffer and is currently owned and operated by his children and Winemaker/Partner Roman Roth.
2. Wölffer Estate Vineyard. The estate is around 470 acres with 55 acres in Sagaponack, NY, 52 acres on the North Fork of Long Island, 200 acres in Mendoza, Argentina, 2.5 acres in Mallorca, Spain and 160 acres managed in collaboration with North Fork growers.
3. Make a Resy. It is best to make a reservation ASAP, right now they are only accepting 2 weeks out. (We went on a Tuesday afternoon in September and it was packed!)
4. Sit on the Lawn. There are 3 places you can reserve to sit at; go for the lawn or terrace. If you can’t get one don’t worry, we ended up being able to move and sit on the lawn day of when we had indoor tasting reservations. We got to sit in our own private vineyard row.
5. Tastings. The actual tastings are limited during COVID and you can only order by the glass, however, they are open all year round 7 days a week so if looking for the tasting experience you should be able to make it work at any time.
6. Food. You can order snacks, meals etc. and even make a custom charcuterie board
7. Wine Stand. The wine stand is a great back up option if you can’t get into the actual vineyard because it’s still on vineyard property and super cute. A popular pit stop with a casual ambiance and view of the vineyard. Can get really popular Friday and Saturday evenings.
8. Visit the Kitchen. Can’t make it to the vineyard? Try a glass at one of the Wölffer kitchens in Amagansett or Sag Harbor. (Second to the last pic was at brunch in Amagansett location).
Save for your next trip to Wölffer Estate! Cheers 🥂
