The DL: Boothbay Harbor is a quintessential coastal town in Maine that should be on your list to visit. Its about a 15-20 minute drive off the highway through back country roads and then you end up in the cutest little coastal town. This little town has great food, lots of events, and becomes a popular summer destination so plan ahead. You will need a car to get here, but for the most part the downtown is walkable.
- Explore the downtown of Boothbay Harbor – its very walkable and all along the water, plan to shop and walk over the main footbridge
2. Grab a Drink with a view – Bradys (great service), Blue Moon Cafe, Tugboat Inn, Boothbay Lobster Wharf, Boathouse Bistro
3. Eat some Lobster in Boothbay Harbor! Schedule a time to do the Cabbage Island Clambake its a whole experience or grab a lobster roll at Shannon’s unshelled. There are plenty of seafood options with a view which is one of my favorite parts of this town.
4. Get on the water – boat tour, lobster tour, sunset cruise, fishing charter, puffin tour, kayak, or harbor boat tour there are so many options. Most start the first week of June and end in October.
5. Visit the lighthouses near and around Boothbay Harbor – Burnt Island, Hendricks Head, Ram Island
6. Take a trip to the Boothbay Harbor botanical gardens
7. Day trip to Monhegan Island (only accessible by boat) – its 17 miles of walking trails, shops and inns.
8. Visit the Railway Village – what Maine was like in the late 19th-mid 20th century.
