With about 60 North Fork wineries alone, there is no shortage of places to try. Long Island has three American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) which include the North Fork, The Hamptons, and Long Island. I will be giving you some tips about the North Fork:
- You can get to the North Fork Wineries by public transit but Ubers are limited and having a car is more ideal to get from place to place (if you plan to drink all day see about getting a driver service)
- Reservations are not always needed but check in advance to avoid missing out on one you want to visit
- Many of the wineries have food onsite if you need a snack but not full meals
- They are all pretty spread out so to make the most of your time, make a plan on where you plan to go and where you end up staying. My google map.
- Where to visit at the North Fork Wineries (some of my favorites):
- Kontoska – make sure to find the ocean views at this north fork winery
- Croteaux – a rose winery with a cute outdoor setting
- Bridgelane – canned wines
- Bedell Cellars
- Lenz winery
- Rosehill
There are about 90 wineries in Long Island in total and about a 2 hour drive from NYC. I would highly recommend spending 2 days to get the ultimate experience. Cheers!
